Atmospheric applications using Sentinel-5P Data
ISAE-SUPAERO
is a leading aerospace engineering school located in Toulouse, France.
On Wednesday
February 26th 2020, RUS Copernicus will provide there a half day hands-on
training session where the ISAE students will access from own laptop a Virtual
Machine to exploit the open source toolboxes available in the RUS environment
to download and process Sentinel 5-P data.
RUS Training Course
Sentinel-5P was launched in October
2017. Its main purpose is to screen the Earth’s atmosphere and quantify
different pollutants (CO, NO2, SO2, O3,
aerosols…) with a great accuracy and spatial resolution. It also provides measurement
continuity with precedent and ongoing atmospheric spatial missions (OMI, IASI
and SCHIAMACHY). The data recorded by this satellite are free of use and
present a great interest to globally monitor air quality, greenhouse gases
emissions and detect polluting events.
This half day training will focus on the
processing of Sentinel-5P data for different types of trace gas and aerosol in
the atmosphere. The specifically designed BEAT Open Toolbox will be used
throughout the workshop. The participants will learn to monitor both daily
pollution and polluting events based on processed Sentinel-5P data.
The ISAE students will first get
familiar with the structure of S5P products. Then they will learn how to create
world maps of the pollution caused by a particular type of trace gas from S5P
data. They will also learn how to monitor and follow polluting events (such as
rainforest fires, pipeline emissions) thanks to the daily measurement and
global coverage of Sentinel-5P. They will eventually learn how to quantify the
pollution in a city during distinct parts of the year.
Software: BEAT Toolbox
Equipment
Attendees must bring their own
laptop/mouse and will be provided with access to the RUS platform Virtual
Machine.
Cost & Participation
Attendance to the training course is free of
charge, however travel and accommodation expenses are excluded.
Participation
to the course is open to ISAE-SUPAERO students.
