Mapping Arctic lakes from space

This training session will demonstrate the usage of the Open Tools (ESA SNAP, Orfeo Toolbox, QGIS, etc.) available within the RUS environment for mapping water bodies using satellite data, focusing specifically on Arctic landscapes.

The training will be provided as part of the 5th European Conference on Permafrost programme (EUCOP5 2018).


Background

The 5th European Conference on Permafrost (EUCOP 2018) will be held in Chamonix-Mont Blanc, France, 23 June - 1st July 2018. The conference aims at covering all relevant aspects of permafrost research, engineering and outreach on a global and regional level.

Max no. of participants

Morning Theory Session: 90 - Seats will be available on a first-come first-served basis, no registration is needed.

Afternoon Practical Session: 25 - Seats are subject to a pre-registration, also on first-come first-served basis.



Equipment

Attendees will bring their own laptop and will be provided with access to the RUS platform Virtual Machine.


Costs & Participation

Attendance to the training course is free of charge to participants registered to the 5th European Conference on Permafrost (EUCOP5), however travel and accommodation expenses are excluded.
