RUS Copernicus training for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)

This closed two-day hands-on training course, taking place on 4-5 November 2019 in Geneva, is organized by RUS Copernicus and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for the ICRC community. 

The main goal of this training session is to create theoretical and practical competences on the use of Sentinel data for multiple applications, including land cover, urban areas and forest fires.


Preliminary Programme

The course includes hands-on exercises on satellite image processing and classification.

DAY 1 (Monday 4 November 2019)

Morning:

RUS introduction, Copernicus Sentinels data and Applications

Exercise 1 - Crop mapping with Sentinel-1 and Sentienl-2

Afternoon:

Exercise 2 - Land cover mapping with Sentinel-1 and Sentienl-2

DAY 2 (Tuesday 5 November 2019)

Morning:

Exercise 3 - Active fire detection and burned area mapping with Sentinel-3 and Sentinel-2

Afternoon:

Exercise 4 - Urban/build up areas mapping/monitoring with Sentinel-1


Equipment

Attendees will be required to bring their own laptop and will be provided with access to the RUS Copernicus Virtual Machine.

This is a closed training session.


Costs

Attendance to the training course is free of charge, however participants are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation costs.
